Nuisance neighbours and antisocial behaviour
All developments may encounter excess noise levels and unacceptable behaviour. It is not part of our management duties to become involved in such matters but we may assist by writing to the occupier to remind them about provisions in their Lease.
The following may help:
1. Try to build a relationship with the neighbour causing the problem.
2. Try speaking to them explaining that their behaviour is inconveniencing you; they may not be aware that their actions are causing a nuisance.
3. Have a stronger word with them explaining the impact their actions are having on you.
4. Employ mediation services (more of this a bit later).
5. Contact your local authority
6. Contact the relevant abatement societies.
7. Take legal action.
A Government leaflet is available which you can use called “Bothered by Noise: No Need to Suffer.” Supplies are free from DEFRA. Ring 08459 556 000 and quote reference PB12023 or click <here> to view their webpage (external site).
There are help lines to give advice to lessees. Noise Concern is run by the Noise Abatement Society on 01273 823 851. Noise Direct Helpline 08453 313 2630 is run by the United Kingdom Noise Association.
